Aresha, my unsuccessful NaNoWriMo for 2011

December 9, 2011 | 7:21 pm | Journal: fanfiction, NaNoWriMo, updates |    3 comments

This year my NaNoWriMo was not successful. Less than 20,000. I can’t complain, since the attempt gave me a new story to work on in my free time, but the fact I wasn’t able to work constantly left me with a sense of frustration in my chest.

The novel title is Aresha. I didn’t feel like updating this blog for the duration of the challenge – and I don’t wish to spoil the plot here anyway, but I can report what I wrote in my NaNoWriMo profile:

A 9-year old girl from another planet, Aresha, retained mentally-ill and confined into a hospital for life, finds herself lost on Earth for a weird destiny’s trick. The contact with a completely different species and culture, on which she only had a superficial knowledge, will open a breach in her lonely heart while her family tries to ‘save’ her from unknown dangers.

The novel was written entirely in Italian this time and, when I finish it, I don’t plan to publish it in English, unless I opt for self-publication. You understand that, in the former case, it’d be up to the Italian publisher to choose whether to allow an English version or not.

In other news, I gave one of my imaginary daughters – Asha (asha.bellachino.net) – a new pair of ZENNI eyeglasses for her 16th birthday. Asha is a Cardassian teenager (see StarTrek Wikia for a definition of ‘Cardassian’ – an alien species in Star Trek, to use a few words) appeared in one episode of Star Trek DS9, Cardassians, in which she’s an orphan girl found on Bajor after the Occupation ended. In my fanfictional family, Optimus Primal and I chose to adopt this girl because nobody cared about her. I had her need eyeglasses only because I fell in love with ZENNI designs and I wanted one of my family characters wear them.

More writing-related updates coming before Christmas.

A few words on Straight Talk

October 21, 2011 | 5:01 pm | Journal: guest writers |    0 comment

This post brought to you by Straight Talk. All opinions are 100% mine.

I feel creative!

A lot. :) Short stories and blog posts come out so easily these days. I’m happy with the creative burst, I don’t get it so often, especially when I spend two weeks in bed with influenza (sigh).

I will update you on my stories progress soon. ;)

Remember Tracfone and it’s cute cellphones? I wrote about them some time ago, and I think I mentioned Straight Talk too. You know, Straight Talk phones are not only famous in Robocity (I made my Robocitans blog about it, hehe), they’re also getting my personal favors. :) Too bad I live in Italy, because with the ‘Unlimited Monthly’ plan, free 411 calls and web access, it sounds really appealing. Also, they mount one of my favorite OS’s: you can Feel Richer with Android, even on a low budget, as… it’s free to use. :) And free of virus attacks too (yeah, not like Windows!).

And it also comes with a lot of fun apps and games. That’s the best part of the OS, trust me. The power of Android, the true one.

Look here, a video to better illustrate all I told you about Straight Talk:

I will update again in a few days.

Giving and Receiving

October 19, 2011 | 3:56 pm | Journal: on writing, updates |    0 comment

I love FreelanceWritersDen.com.

Yes, it costs $25/month — and yes, I pay money to learn how to earn money.

Isn’t life all about giving and receiving after all?

That $25/month isn’t money wasted. The community is filled with experienced writers, journalists and magazine article writers, always ready to understand and give advice to young, less experienced writers such as myself.

Carol Tice — founder of the Den — is one of these wonderful writers I admire and continuously learn from. She’s amazing and caring, she’s given me so much good advice ever since I first talked to her, outside of the Den. She made me feel a worthy writer since the very start. Thank you Carol! :)

A small update on less serious stories

Aside from short stories, I do blog too, and I do Character Blog. Yes, I enjoy entering the shoes of a fictional character (mine or taken from a movie or anime) and tell their stories in first person.

I had fun with the inspiration a certain site – http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/ – has given me. Why a scrub store? –you’d ask. Well, there is no rational motif: I felt inspired and I used a few lab coats to generate a series of commentaries on robots wearing scrubs and why all across Robocity and a few robots from Cybertron. *smiles*

That’s the power of imagination for you.
